In response to Danny Postel's letter, posted earlier, about Christopher Hitchens--and the posted comments from readers of DIRELAND who wrote in about this controversy, I have just received from l'ami Christopher (who's veen voyaging) the following response, which I reproduce with his permission:
Sorry: didn't get to this until late. Nafisi's "acknowledgments" page - the one I did plainly cite in my own name in Slate - leaves my critics (and those who looked at the wrong page) to suggest an alternative Paul. I might add that I don't make surmises like this without checking them.
I may have condensed or elided verbally in my conversation with Hari, who is a fairly meticulous reporter, but then he has me applauding a "destabilisation" of General Franco as if such a thing had actually taken place rather than (which I must have meant) as if it would have been a desirable thing if it had.
As always, impressed by those who wait to pounce (and hinting to them that they might do well to wait even longer before they make their triumphant spring).

I don't see any reason to bitch about Hitchens on this.
After all, I was right, wasn't I?
And that's all that matters. That I'm right.
