GOOD NEWS FOR OBAMA, DESPITE HIMSELF...

Obama_cartoon_2 Here's the upside of the financial-banking crisis: The new Pew poll  -- one of the two most reliable in the country (with the Wall St. Journal poll being tops) -- shows major shifts that are very good news for Obama. First, his lead on the economy has jumped to 18 points. That's huge, and tough for McCain to overcome with only a month to go. Second, the Wall Street crisis is driving the over-50 voters, worried about their retirement funds  -- they were previously McCain's strongest category -- away from McCain. Among older voters, Obama now has an 11 point lead.
At the same time, new CNN-Time-Opinion Research polls in Battleground states out this afternoon, while not necessarily the most reliable, show sharp movement toward Obama: he now leads Missouri by one point, Nevada by 4, Florida by four, Virginia by 9, Minnesota -- where he'd lost the big lead he had at the beginning of the summer -- by 11.
See the full Pew poll here.
Of course, if Obama would go full-throat populist he'd wrap this thing up fast. But today, in his big speech on the economy, carried live on MSNBC, he was still regurgitating more centrist pablum. Worst line: "There is no real division between Main Street and Wall Street -- we're all one America." What a putz! It's so dumb to say that in the middle of a nationwide left-right revolt against Wall Street !! The guy's got centrism in his DNA (and Clintonistas Bob Rubin-Gene Sperling-Roger Altman at his ear, all sponsors of the repeal of Glass-Steagal that got Wall Street and the banks in the mess they're in today.)
P.S. -- Here's the smart mainstream alternative to the con job that is the $700 Wall Street bailout, from George Soros in today's Financial Times -- to read it, click here.

If you want to invade Pakistan, send more troops to Afghanistan to kill civilians and make another 9-11 retalitory attack against the "homeland" more likely, beef up the legionary forces of Imperial America, attack Venezuelan leader Chavez as a "rogue," then Obama (or McCain) is your man.

Euros Inflations

Do you have any actual criticism of Obama? I mean, aside from his "centrism" and his calls for national unity. How can you criticize Obama's "pablum" without mentioning a single substantive policy issue? Or are you being intentionally ironic?

Mary: Opposing one candidate does not necessarily mean supporting another. It is entirely possible to oppose Obama's policies in many areas without supporting "Keating Five" McCain. Personally, I'm voting for Cynthia McKinney because she is the only party candidate for whom I agree with on most issues. Sadly, Obama agrees with McCain more often than he agrees with me.

Republican presidential nominee John McCain is competitive with Sen. Barack Obama(Ill.) in Northern Virginia, but the Democratic nominee has opened up a 13-point lead in Hampton Roads and parts of Southside, according to the CNN/Time poll released this week.McCain has a narrow 4 point lead statewide, according to the poll conducted Sunday through Tuesday. McCain holds a 20-point advantage in the Shenandoah Valley and Southwestern Virginia, getting 56 percent of the vote compared to Obama's 36 percent. McCain holds a similar lead in central Virginia, which includes the Disrict's exurbs, the Northern Neck, Richmond and it suburbs and south-central areas of the state.

I don't know which of Mary's absurd statement I like better. Is it

1. Saint Obama of the Empty Suit has secret plans to save us all.

or

B. Anyone who opposes Mary's warmongering corporate-owned blood-soaked shit of a political party is automatically a "covert" republican.

I just can't decide!

Barack Obama's backing to the billionaire bailout plan, and twisting the arms of Congressional Black Caucus members to get them on board, is just the latest reason to push the movement for systemic change rather than the Chicago huckster for Wall Street and the Pentagon.

If you have forgotten the Bill Clinton betrayals, and want a leader who will deny you the basic civil right of marriage, trotted out antigay bigot Donnie McClurkin to clinch African American support, is now back-pedaling from overturning "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," and who avoids all public gay appearances, then Obama is your man.

If you think voting is the way to make social change, think again. One of the high points of Michael Moore's "Sicko" film showed Parisians marching in the streets and an African American woman saying that unlike the French, Americans seems to be afraid of the government and afraid of making demands in the streets.

Doug, I have been a member of your blog for a long time, but I must say you have really gone off the track this time...
First, you seem to covertly be supporting the dottering old racist, homophibic fool that Really Really wants to be our next dictator.
And yes, Obama is leading tonight in 4 battleground states, and HE is covertly way ahead in many states that were formerly RED...like here in formerly racist and red neck Tennessee... And his support is so diverse that we have registered over 300,000 new voters. These are folks who DO NOT want another criminal in the White House. Nor do they want a ditsy, creationist, 'pro-life-til it's born', ignorant female near the red phone and/or the red nuke buttons.
Barack has many plans to fix the situation in this country, and he has ways to pay for them all!
The rest of the 'polls' will continue to show his lead will keep growing, especially after tomorrow night when Joe Biden will politely show the real Palin to the world!
